What do you need to know about starting your day?
First things first, some months, May, June, September and October are particularly busy for national days. And some days or weeks within a month can also be very popular. No organisation stakes a claim to certain days, weeks or months. So, if you are wanting to start a new National Awareness Day, week or month you simply need to choose your date!
However, the choice of the date is worth bearing in mind. Some organisations are very clever with their dates, which in our view makes then very memorable, for example, International Nurses' Day takes place worldwide on 12 May. This date is significant as it was the day in 1820 that Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing was born.
Another memorable date is Samaritans Day in the UK which usually takes place on 27 July each year. The relevance of this date is that the Samaritans are available to speak to people who need them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - 24/7 - making it very easy to remember!
So, all you have to do is pick a day, week or month and you have taken a first step towards starting your day.
It may be that you want to tie in with another awareness day. An example of this is National Real Bread Maker Week which takes place in the UK in May each year and this ties in nicely with National Mills Weekend. Traditional wind and water mills around the country open their doors to the public and their produce, ie: locally milled flour is sold. Perhaps a dairy butter and homemade preserve company need to get in the act as well!
We also recommend when starting your day that it is important to have an area of your own website dedicated to the awareness day. This enables your visitors to easily find the information they are searching for.
Now you need to get your message across and tell people all about your awareness day. What is the background and history of the day? What are you trying to achieve by holding this day and how are you going to engage with the public to ensure your day becomes an annual high profile event?
With over 78,000 visitors per month to our National Awareness Days home page we can help promote your new day. We can offer you a page dedicated to your awareness day on our website. Along with this we also link to your official awareness day page and include details of your day in an edition of our monthly e-zine and we raise awareness via our social media networks.
Now you can see how it works. The possibility for new National Awareness Days is endless - and as unlimited as your imagination!
