The purpose of National School Meals Week (NSMW), which is run by the Local Authority Caterers Association (LACA) is to promote awareness of healthy eating in Britain's Primary and Secondary schools, and everyone is encouraged to get involved!
This year National School Meals Week will run from 2-6 November 2015 and it's all about recognising what is great about school meals. There have been fantastic improvements over recent years, but there are still some misconceptions made by parents based on their own experience of school meals.
This year Food for Life National Roast Dinner Day will take place on 4 November 2015. Schools will be encouraged to invite parents, staff and members of local communities to join them for a roast lunch. It is hoped that this will highlight the great things happening in school catering to children who currently use the school meal service and it will encourage those who don't to give it a try.
Obviously, not all caterers will be able to support the event due to the costs involved and therefore LACA are looking for funding from the Government and the private sector to help support this worthwhile event.
So how can you get involved? Well, you could become a school meals ambassador by registering your support on the NSMW website. You can also contact your local authority to ask if they will support the campaign for one free meal on one day during the week. And finally, you can support NSMW by following them on Facebook and Twitter.
Whatever you decide to do you will find that there's lots happening this National School Meals Week so make sure you check out the official website for all the information you need.Home › November › National School Meals Week
