Dystonia Awareness Week
30 April - 8 May 2016

Dystonia Awareness Week takes place from 30 April - 8 May 2016.

You might not have heard of Dystonia, but this condition can be very painful for sufferers.  It is a neurological disorder which causes involuntary muscle spasms affecting around 700 000 people in the UK.

While there is no cure for the condition, there are a number of treatments which can help to relieve the symptoms, though unfortunately they might not work for all sufferers.

The awareness week is organised by The Dystonia Society.  The society was created in 1983 by a small group of Dystonia sufferers who understood the effects of the condition and how important it is to have support and advice at hand.

Throughout the week, the group aims to improve the public's understanding of the disease and help those who are affected by it.

As part of the week, sponsored events will take place up and down the country - from bike rides to running events.

You can find out all about taking part and making a donation at the official Dystonia Awareness Week website, so get involved today!
