Talk about bottoms can be embarrassing it's time to bring that topic from the bottom to the top of the agenda! Be Loud Be Clear 23-29 January 2012
Be Loud Be Clear
- 1 in 18 people are affected by bowel cancer in the UK. This type of cancer affects the colon, the large bowel and the rectum. It will tend to spread to other parts of your body even though the disease can take up to 10 years to form.
So how you can protect yourself? Make sure you know the signs. Colon problems and symptoms may appear as bleeding from the bottom, abdominal pain, feeling a lump in your stomach or weight loss coupled with fatigue.
A 'risk factor' can considerably increase your chances of developing bowel cancer. Smokers are putting themselves at risk, as are drinkers who drink to excess rather than moderation. So it's essential we all make it our aim to
develop as healthy a lifestyle as possible.
What about treatment? The three main types of treatment available are chemotherapy for bowel cancer, surgery and specialist radiotherapy.
Will you help this January? If so there are a range of things you can do to get involved. Cake sales and clothes swaps are also always a great idea that people like to get on board with.
Need some inspiration? Take a few tips from Be Loud Be Clear 2011. An original idea thought up by Sharon Weaver was to design her own word search and asked people to complete it as they donated. She raised £61.00 going to show that sometimes the simpest ideas are the best ones!
Rosalyn Sandercock and her fellow colleagues set up an awareness stand and set up fundraising events which saw a visit from the local MP.

Altogether now, let's send that message loud n clear!
